Most Important

If we could reduce all the concepts to 3-5 words - what would those be? What captures the most important qualities of a solid, significant and successful high school education?

  1. Broad
    Deep
    Challenging
    Diverse
    Inspiring
    Expansive

  2. Can you add some thoughts to the idea of expansive? What form would that take in a high school?

  3. I was thinking along the lines of offering a wide range of options and helping students to learn about and feel connected to the larger world. Exposure to different ideas and points of views as well as to the many, many possibilities out there for the post-SW future. Students should feel empowered and realize that they have some control over their life, and that a good education can help them have a better shot at picking and choosing a life path that works for them. (and on a more basic academic level, I appreciated that I had the opportunity to study Mexican and Canadian history at SW. I don't think that's the norm. It helps put things, and not just American history, into a broader context. Perhaps there's a better word, but overall I envisioning a "the world is your oyster if you choose to take advantage of the many opportunities that we're working to provide you with" kind of message. (followed up, of course, with providing those opportunities for as many students as possible.)
